The County of San Diego (California) has announced its Proclamation that February 7 2010 is declared JADE BUDDHA FOR UNIVERSAL PEACE DAY throughout San Diego County. The wording of the proclamation is as follows:
Proclamation Honoring the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace
Whereas, the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace is the largest Buddha carved from gemstone quality jade in the world, Its religious and cultural value along with its size and beauty make this precious symbol a wonder of the world.

Whereas, San Diego County is the distinct privilege to be the first in the United States to welcome the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace.
Whereas, the Jade Buddha project began in 2003, when the spiritual master Lama Zopa Rinpoche divined that the translucent jade found south of the Yukon border in Canada should be made into a Buddha as a holy object to be offered to the world; and
Whereas, Lama Zopa Rinpoche named the Jade Buddha with the belief that it would illuminate the world and bring peace and happiness and help prevent the destruction that is happening in so much of the world; and
Whereas, after completion in December, 2008, the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace began a world tour to several countries that is expected to last for several years; and
Whereas, the tour is dedicated to world peace and it is hoped that the Buddha’s presence will inspire everyone who sees it to find peace in their home, school and work, as well as in their own heart; and
Whereas, the County of San Diego is committed to recognizing and honouring those events that are dedicated to the best ideals of public service and the tour of the JADE BUDDHA FOR UNIVERSAL PEACE is one such worthy occasion; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Chairwoman Pam Slater-Price and all members of the SAN Diego County Board of Supervisors on this 7th day of February 2010 that they do declare this day to be “JADE BUDDHA FOR UNIVERSAL PEACE DAY” throughout San Diego County.
